AP® Art and Design: Exploring Artistic Frontiers
The AP® Art and Design program offers a transformative opportunity for high school students to is an exceptional opportunity for high school students to embark on an artistic journey that transcends boundaries. Comprising three distinct courses—AP® 2-D Art and Design, AP® Drawing, and AP® Photography—it provides a comprehensive platform for students to explore diverse artistic expressions.
Through these courses, students construct portfolios showcasing their inquiry in art and design, reflecting the evolution of their ideas, materials, and processes over the span of a year. These portfolios encompass artworks, process documentation, and written reflections on the work presented. In May, students submit their portfolios for evaluation, focusing on skillful synthesis and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision.
Students engage with diverse media, styles, subjects, and content, guided by observation, research, experimentation, and reflection. They document their artistic journey, demonstrating both conceptual and technical development over time. The program nurtures inventive artistic scholars who contribute to visual culture through their creations.
The courses are designed to be equivalent to a one-semester introductory college course in 2-D art and design, drawing, and photography, respectively.
